Calming Environment

My grandma is what some might call a “worry wart”.  Since she has a lot of time on her hands, her mind tends to constantly be in overdrive, and many hours alone during the day seem to harrow up all kinds of outlandish stories in her head.  If someone doesn’t call directly after a doctor’s appointment she imagines the worst scenario, etc.  So creating a calming environment is vital for her.  Fortunately, she enjoys listening to birds, and this activity seems to relax her mind and body a lot more then when she watches Dr. Phil—another thing she derives much enjoyment from.

The quest to gift grandma with things that would be best for her health and well-being began a little over a year ago, and after much contemplation, we decided to get her a bird.  We chose a beautiful male canary that loves to sing.  Grandma has enjoyed immensely caring for the bird (which she named Bing), and loves to feed him a variety of healthy options.  Her excitement for that bird has given her something to look forward to on a daily basis and in return, he rewards her with the gift of song and companionship.

This year for Mother’s Day, I was excited to gift her with a beautiful, hand-crafted bird feeder.  I know this will draw her outdoors more, which is another healthy opportunity for her.  The added benefit of fresh air and being in nature with its sights, sounds, and smells really soothes her.  I’m grateful for the small ways that I have been able to create a calming environment for grandma.  I have seen a noticeable difference in how she works through the stresses in her life and have noticed improvement in her health and mood.

Show your loved ones that you care with the gift of a bird aviary.  This gift will not only incorporate a relaxing environment for all, but may also help restore vitality and well-being in a profound way.
