Vibrant vs. Blah Birds!

My happiness in life is often tied into my health.  When I don’t get enough sleep, my diet is poor, and I don’t exercise regularly, my body doesn’t feel well and consequently my mood swings are bad.  My cute little two-year-old son has seen me throw a full-blown tantrum more often than I care to admit!  I feel very down and overall blah, and it shows.  My hair loses it sheen, my skin becomes sallow and is more prone to break outs, and my smile disappears.

Birds can experience the same sort of blah lifestyle when they aren’t receiving a diet rich in necessary vitamins and minerals.  Although birds who receive a regular diet of seeds will survive, they won’t be living a vibrant, healthy life and it shows!  In fact, the Rosco diet was developed after working to restore a parrot named Rosco back to health.   He had spent 8 years of his life in a dark garage eating nothing but wild bird seed, and ended up with many health issues.  He had a twisted torso from atrophied muscles, was blind in one eye, and his climbing ability was severely limited.

Don’t let this happen to your birds!  Keep them vibrant and happy with a healthy diet.

Below are some things you can do to keep your birds healthy:

  • Vary their diet to include fresh vegetables and fruits.
  • Ensure they are receiving the fat they need to give their feathers a nice sheen.

Remember, we can assist you in the process of keeping your birds healthy!  Below are some items you can request your technician bring to help keep your birds healthy:

  • Vitamins are a great way to help your birds get the nutrition they need.  Just sprinkle some on their fresh veggies and let them feast upon a great meal.
  • Egg food is another thing we provide.  This will give your birds the benefits of eggs, without having to cook them yourself!
  • Millet is always a wonderful seed you can add to your bird’s diet.  We bring two strands of millet for your birds to enjoy, but if you notice they are eating them fast, you can request we bring more.
  • Iodine is important for the health of your bird’s thyroid.  Upon request, we can deliver some that can be added to your bird’s water.

Incorporate these things into your birds diets and enjoy the reward that a happy, healthy bird can bring to you!
