Mannikins

Unlike most mannequins, the Mannikin finch is anything but immobile.  Originating from Central Africa, they like to feast on seeds, greens, and millet!  While most birds courtship displays are entertaining to witness, this one may be a bit frustrating for the poor male.  Although they are earnest in their quest for love, the beauty of their voice is barely audible; however, the dance routine, complete with a prop of grass in their bill, wins over the lovely female anyway!

The result is a beautiful clutch of 4-6 white eggs, which are carefully tended to by the female.  The incubation process lasts a mere 13 days, and then watch for the babies to fledge (take flight) in approximately three weeks.
