Avoid Moldy Bird Food!

If you are a proud owner of one of our aviaries, you may have noticed that when our technicians clean, they place the bird food and water dish on opposite ends of the aviary.  This is not to annoy the heck out of the person caring for the birds, but rather to keep the bird food from getting moldy.  This is very important as moldy food can be deadly to birds!  In the event you notice mold on the bird seed, the seed is clumping, or smells bad, dispose of the bird seed immediately.  Before placing fresh seed in the dish, thoroughly clean the dish by vigorously scrubbing with hot, soapy water.  Rinse and dry the dish well before placing fresh seed back in the dish for your birds.

Another thing to watch for with the placement of the food and water dish is to avoid placing them underneath the bird swing.  Unlike my dog, birds do not enjoy dining on poop splattered food!  Placing the food and water dish as close to the front of the aviary as possible will help eliminate this problem.

And since separating water from the bird seed is important, make sure that when you give your birds a bath, the bird food is placed on the opposite end of that weekly activity.

Please take the little bit of extra time required when caring for your birds to ensure they are in optimal health.
